The Directorate of Printing and Stationery is under the Administrative Control of the Industrial Development Department of Government of Uttar Pradesh. Its basic functions are Printing and supply of Stationery articles to the all Government Departments of the state.
Government Presses have a dignified background and the glorious history which is more than 150 years old. The first state press was established in Allahabad after being transferred from Agra. At present four Presses and one Stationery store are functioning under the control of the Directorate.
The Government press regularly performs the printing work for Uttar Pradesh Legislature, Different Government Departments publications i.e. Gazettes, G.Os, Budget Literature etc, Election commission of India, State Election Commission and Hon'ble High Court according to their requirements.
The history of the publication of the Gazette is very old. Even during the time of Ashoka the great, important information was written on boulders and pillars. The information was made available to the general public by playing the later mandates and drums. In present era, information about government orders/rules is being given to the general public through the Gazette.
At present, two types of gazettes are being published. (1) Ordinary Gazette and (2) Extraordinary Gazette. The Ordinary Gazette is published every week on Saturday. Whereas the gazettes with immediate effect are published in extraordinary Gazette issue......
